Participant Inquiry

Program spots are considered on an individual basis.  To be considered for a spot, send an email to the Program Coordinator.  Prior to assessment, all participants must complete the Intake Package, including a physician’s referral. Some disabilities/medical conditions may also require an X-ray or special permission from your doctor.  The medical details provide important information to the program to ensure that horseback riding is an appropriate activity.

Once the paperwork is complete, an assessment can be arranged.  All paperwork must be fully completed and returned to us BEFORE an assessment is scheduled. Staff will only look for appropriate spots after the in-person assessment is complete.

During the assessment, the participant will come to the barn and we will go through a few simple exercises to establish the participant’s skills and abilities and to determine which class, horse, and volunteers would be most appropriate.  There is no horseback riding, driving, or class participation at the assessment.

VTRA endeavors to support as many participants as possible. Basic criteria includes the following:

  • Minimum age: 4
  • Maximum weight: 150 lbs.
  • Physician referral
