Valla
Valla is an exciting new addition to our herd of twelve hardworking horses. Born in 2009, Valla is has a sweet, inquisitive nature with a feisty side just to keep life interesting. Valla is new to therapeutic training, but she seems keen to learn and try new things. It won’t be long before she joins our regular rotation of horses in the ring. A big VTRA welcome to our newest, Norwegian Fjord!
Bangsi
Bangsi (which means “little bear” or “teddy bear” in Icelandic) is a chestnut Icelandic horse born in 2002. He joined VTRA in 2016 as a goofy and sweet therapy horse. He is the shortest VTRA horse, standing at 13.2 hands high, but he has a big personality!
Trigger
Trigger joined VTRA in 2018. He is a beautiful Quarter Horse Appaloosa cross born in 2001, standing at 14.3 hands high. Trigger is a sweet and gentle boy who has adapted well to his job as a therapy horse and is always happy to see people in the barn!
Moose
Moose is the newest member of the herd at VTRA. He is a 2002 Belgian/Thoroughbred cross gelding, standing at 16.3 hands tall! Don’t let his height intimidate you, he is a gentle giant and very easy going. We are so excited about his progress so far!
Java
Java is a 14hh bay gelding who began his free lease with VTRA in November 2017. Java is a Haflinger/Morgan cross, which makes him a mix of Danny’s and Joey’s breeds. He is a very sweet boy and has adapted well to his job at VTRA so far!
Cherry
Cherry Lane is a Gypsy Vanner cross, and was purchased from Washington State in 2015. She loves to look at herself in the mirror in the indoor arena… probably because she knows she is so beautiful! Gypsy Vanners are known for their long, flowing manes, tails and feathering on the lower legs. Cherry is a grey, but has faded piebalding (black spots), which is another characteristic of a Gypsy Vanner. She was born in 2007 and is 15.2 hands high.
Maryke
Maryke is quite the goofy girl! She is very sweet and mischievous. She was born in 2002, and is 14.2 hands high Fjord mare, which is one of the world’s oldest breeds! Maryke joined VTRA in 2007 and is actually Cisco’s half sister!
Cisco
Cisco is another one of our Norwegian Fjords. Most Fjords are supposed to be pony sized (14.2 hands or smaller) but for some reason he just kept growing and is 15 hands high! He was born in 2002 and has been with VTRA since 2013. Cisco is goofy and playful, but slow and steady. He makes a great therapeutic horse and loves people and attention!
Joey
Joey is very sweet and sensitive mare. She is 15 hands high and a Morgan/Arabian cross. Joey was born in 1999 and spent many years as a Western competitive trail horse, before joining VTRA in 2011.
Morgan horses are used as coach horses and for harness racing and were known for their versatility. Being crossed with Arabian horses was used to improve their speed, refinement, endurance and bone strength. Arabian horses also have the ability to form a cooperative relationship with humans and are good-natured, quick to learn, and willing to please.
KC
KC is a lovely, sensitive horse, perfect for our more independent riders looking to gain confidence. She is a beautiful 15.1 hands high Quarter Horse Mare. KC was born July 15th 2000 and joined VTRA in 2009. KC has been ridden both English and Western style. Everyone who gets to know this horse just falls in love with her.
The Quarter Horse Mare is a breed that gets its name from its ability to outdistance other horse breeds in races of a quarter mile or less, some individuals have been clocked at speeds up to 88.5 km/h. The Quarter Horse is the most popular breed in the United States today and is well known both as a racehorse and for its performance in rodeos, horse shows and as a working ranch horse.
