Rider Inquiry

Riding spots are considered on an individual basis.  To be considered for a spot, send an email to the program coordinator. Prior to assessment, all riders must complete the Rider Package, including physician’s referral. Some disabilities/medical conditions may also require an X-ray or special permission from your doctor.  The medical details provide important information to the program in order to ensure that horseback riding is an appropriate activity.

Once the paperwork is complete, an assessment can be arranged.  All paperwork must be fully completed and returned to us BEFORE an assessment and placement in the program.

During the assessment the rider will come to the barn and we will go through a few simple exercises.  There is no actual horseback riding at the assessment.  The assessment establishes the riders skills and abilities, and gives us an idea of which class, and horse, would be most appropriate.

VTRA endeavours to support as many riders as possible. Basic criteria includes the following:

  • Minimum age: 6
  • Maximum weight: 150 lbs.
  • Physician referral
