Job Description

Victoria Therapeutic Riding Association (VTRA) enriches the lives of children and adults with disabilities through the provision of therapeutic horse-back riding programs and related activities. We provide services to over 150 participants each year, and are supported by over 200 volunteers. VTRA has an opening for a dynamic and innovative Coordinator of Volunteers, who will play a key role in a team of dedicated staff. VTRA provides a rewarding and flexible working environment, located in idyllic Central Saanich.

The Coordinator of Volunteers reports directly to the Executive Director. They are responsible for recruiting, assessing, training and managing volunteers. Specific activities include, but are not limited to: scheduling of volunteers, communication with volunteers, volunteer recognition activities and maintenance of volunteer and confidential records.

The position includes working cooperatively and collaboratively with other employees as well as various volunteers within the organization.

The position requires flexibility in working days and hours to monitor volunteer emails.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with diverse populations
  • Comfortable working in a team; strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent project management and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Good organizational ability and attention to detail
  • Ability to solve problems and practice good decision-making
  • Ability to organize workload, set priorities and work independently
  • Ability to provide leadership and take initiative
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and deadlines

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with broad range of individuals, using a variety of mediums

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, Word and computer databases

Assets:

  • Experience in volunteer coordination
  • Experience with horses
  • Experience with WordPress, MailChimp, Facebook

Start Date: Immediate, approximately 25-30 hours per week from Sept to June.
